Barcelona: Best major European city for future direct investment strategy
Welcome
Why invest in Barcelona and Antares? One reason is because the city is a true financial powerhouse, the capital of Catalonia, one of Spain’s wealthiest and most industrious regions. FDi Intelligence, a specialist division of The Financial Times, placed both Barcelona and Catalonia in its latest top ten rankings of ‘cities and regions of the future’, giving pole position to Barcelona as the ‘best major European city for future direct investment strategy’.
Another reason to invest is for the wonderful lifestyle a home at Antares provides. With the weather still appealingly warm, autumn is the perfect time to explore the wider Catalan region and this week we take a tour of Girona, a famously food-focused city just 39 minutes from Barcelona by train. ¡Buen Provecho!
Best wishes
The Antares team
Girona
An architectural and culinary tour
Roman ruins, medieval architecture, a Baroque Cathedral and a well-preserved Jewish Quarter. Girona is a compact, walkable city filled with charm and it’s little wonder that it served as a backdrop for scenes in TV blockbuster Game of Thrones. Walk across Pont de les Peixateries Velles, the red metal bridge designed by Gustave Eiffel before he constructed his Parisian landmark, explore cobbled alleyways and narrow lanes and perhaps most of all, make time for a lengthy lunch.

Food connoisseurs
Girona’s reputation for culinary excellence was sealed in 1995 when El Celler de Can Roca became its first restaurant to win a Michelin star. Today, four restaurants in Girona share 8 Michelin stars between them, three to El Celler which regularly appears at the top of listings on the world’s best restaurants. Reservations open 11 months in advance but if securing a table proves too testing, visit the family’s Rocambolesc ice-cream parlour for a sweet taste of their flair.
