Architectural Excellence
Antares won two standout international accolades this September.
The Emporis Skyscraper Award ranked the building at number 4 in the best new high-rise buildings worldwide, out of a 600-strong field. This is the world’s most renowned architectural prize for new buildings over 100 metres tall, chosen by an international panel of experts and a superb tribute to the work of architect Odile Decq.
A further addition to Antares trophy cabinet came from The Chicago Athenaeum, who cited its excellence in their International Architecture Awards 2022, the world’s oldest annual global design awards programme.
Here and now
The new smart city
Antares is at the forefront of Barcelona’s thriving technology scene, both in its location and its cutting-edge set-up for residents. Poblenou-Diagonal Mar is where Amazon, Telefonica and Microsoft chose to base themselves, and the 22@ innovation district has established its high-tech home. New-generation entrepreneurs and professionals from around the world will be at the Smart City Expo World Congress from 15-17 November and Tech Spirit Barcelona 2022, a two day conference “for the local innovative community with a global vision.”
Paul Klee and Joan Miró
Paul Klee and the Secrets of Nature runs from 21 October to 12 February 2023 at the Fundació Joan Miró in Parc de Montjuïc and explores the relationships Klee and other artists, including Miró, had with nature. Miró is one of Barcelona’s most famous sons, born and buried there and the museum, named for him and dedicated to his work, celebrates its golden anniversary in 2025.
An autumn of opera
Barcelona’s magnificent Gran Teatre del Liceu Opera House celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2022. Highlights include:
- Il Trovatore by Verdi, 27 October to 8 November
- Il Trittico by Puccini, 11 November to 15 December
- Tosca, 4 January to 21 January 2023
